I am a 37 white European male.
My grandfather on my mother's side also had very bad eyesight - Typical 'Coke Bottle' glasses.
I had a cycle accident and fractured my skull when I was about 5 years old.
I needed to wear glasses when I was 7 years old. This fitted in the my grandfather's pattern.
I noticed at this age that my left eye was a little darker when I looked out of it. Everything seemed a shade darker, not the appearance of the eye.
My glasses never seemed to give me perfect vision, they always seemed a little blurry.
My eyes got progressively worse and deteriorated about -.50 every six months up until my late 20s and then they settled down.
I had LASIK when I was about 32 and I had two flap revisions. My eyes became very dry and then I had the corneal flaps sutured. My eyes have been very dry since.
My prescription was about -13 in both eyes.
LASIK was done in two goes. First from -13 to -3 then -3 to -.50. My eyes have been constantly -1.25 since about 5 years.
My eyes first started getting blurry and no-one seemed to know what the matter was.
Living in a large city, I didn't notice that my night vision was bad as there were always street lights to help me. When I was in Bali where there are no lights, I found it was really hard to see.
My vision was also very blurry. I went to an optician and got glasses. I found the vision test very blurry even with lenses.
A week later I got to Australia and a pharmacist suggested eye drops, this seemed to work. I did a lot of swimming in the ocean and my eyes seemed to improve (the blurryness that is).
Six months later whilst travelling, I found that I had a lot of pressure in my right eye. I went to a specialist and was told that this was sinus problems.
A couple of days later a funny little spot appeared in the 2 o'clock position of my right eye. Another visit to an optician showed there was nothing wrong.
The pressure stayed and a day later very suddenly, the central part of my vision went black.
After subsequent tests, nothing could be found - Please see test results - Click Here.
Since then, my vision has been blurry and it has got better. My blind spots as I call them have changed size and shape. Please see my modified Amsler Grid - Click Here.
I am suffering from side affects from the LASIK procedure, such as no night vision, halos and glare around lights, strange feelings in the cornea of my left eye.
When my eyes are not dry which is not all that often, they feel like they feel a bit slimy and not right.
I have tried Alphaghan, Timolol, Azopt and Diamox. The Alphaghan works well to temporarily eliminate the glare, but I feel that my eyes are worse after using it and it only works for about 10 days and then it becomes ineffective. I have totally stopped using these medicines as nothing really seemed to work. I thought it would be better to see what happened without them.
My right eye which was my dominant eye has lost 2 thirds vision. My left eye which is now my dominant eye has also developed an extended blind spot is now developing a blind spot in my central vision. Which will leave me with no central vision in both eyes.
No-one knows even at this point what is causing the blurring or blind spots. But it has been suggested that high pressure in my spinal fluid is causing the problems due to the cycle accident I had as a child.
My vision gets worse after I have sex. I feel pressure in my right eye during orgasm. Maybe there is truth in the old wives tale 8).
I have been getting quite a lot of migraines lately, light sensitive but not really sick. Also when I drink alcohol I mainly get a headache surrounding my right eye.
I am allergic to wheat, diary, chicken eggs, melon and possibly more. I'm going for more tests soon. I have not cut out totally all these products, but I did do a total detox for 14 days and I saw not change in my vision in that time.
